Dante Troubleshooter

The panic button for Dante networks.

Missing devices, broken clocking, mystery dropouts — diagnosed in minutes. Here's what we found, here's what it means, here's your next move.

What's inside.

Six failure modes. Forty-eight screens. Zero forum spelunking.

01Guided fixes

Walkthroughs that explain the why.

Pick your symptom, run the diagnostics, move forward one step at a time:

  • Can't see Dante devices
  • Clock sync problems
  • Routing & audio dropouts
  • DVS & recording rigs
  • Redundant networks sharing one switch
  • Firmware panics & stuck updates
02Real diagnostics

Not a checklist PDF.

The app actually talks to your network:

  • Full subnet scan in ~5 seconds — IP, MAC, vendor, hostname
  • mDNS discovery scan, same mechanism as Dante Controller
  • Isolation check for Wi-Fi, VPNs, dual-homed machines
  • Ping & UDP port probes with honest results
  • Subnet comparator — can these two IPs even see each other?
03Field knowledge

Brand quirks, baked in.

The manufacturer gotchas that never make it into the manual:

  • Yamaha CL/QL clocking defaults & Console IDs
  • Allen & Heath clock-chain rules & static IP traps
  • DiGiCo DMI counts at 96k, Orange Box hierarchy
  • d&B DS100 failsafe LEDs — why amps never appear
  • NEXO NXDT104 card requirement
04Escalation

Reports that make you look organized.

Every diagnostic gets logged with timestamps. When you finally have to call someone, hit Copy Report and paste the whole session into your ticket.

Vendor support will think you're organized. You're not. You just have this app.

Who it's for.

Honest scope beats inflated claims.

For:

  • A1s and system techs who know what a subnet mask is but don't want to derive it under pressure
  • The junior tech you handed the network to, who needs the why explained without condescension
  • Church tech directors running a network one volunteer at a time
  • The installer commissioning a room at 6 a.m. with the client watching
  • Anyone who has ever power-cycled a stage rack at intermission and prayed

Not for:

  • Network engineers who enjoy suffering
  • People whose answer is "just use Dante Domain Manager" — it isn't helpful in a field scenario, and we both know it

Install.

macOS 12 or later (Apple Silicon or Intel) · Windows 10/11 x64.

Grab the installer — the buttons up top always have the latest version.

Unzip and drag Dante Troubleshooter.app to Applications.

Run the installer and follow the prompts.

First launch: macOS will complain we're unsigned — like all the best touring crews. Right-click → Open → Open, or approve via System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. One time only.

First launch: SmartScreen will wave you down — More infoRun anyway. One time only.

Plug into the network and pick your symptom. Doors are in 40 minutes. You've got this.
